Merthyr Valley Homes operate a scheme, Brighter Futures, which provides support and training to any tenants not currently in work. Gavin was claiming disability benefits but really wanted to get back into work and as he had been stuck in the house for a few years due to Covid-19 sadly his mental health had been suffering.
Gavin had previously been involved in driving work and the project’s Employment Support Officer Candy Passmore put him in touch with The Construction Hub Academy to book him on a HGV driving course.
After Gavin completed the course, he was motivated to call around and find a job using the skills he had learned, and he found a job very quickly as a role as a driver for Kepac in Merthyr.
